Darkness | Chekhov, Anton Introduction   Darkness is a play by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. It was first performed in 1898. The play is about a man, Konstantin, who is married to a woman, Irina, and they have a son, Andrei. Irina has tuberculosis and is in the hospital. Konstantin is so worried about her that he doesn't want to leave her side. One night, while he's sitting next to her in the hospital, she dies. Konstantin is heartbroken and doesn't want to go on with his life. He sits in the dark and thinks about everything that has happened to him. He wonders if he made the right choices in life. In the end, Konstantin decides that he did make the right choices and that he is still happy. Darkness is a beautiful and heartbreaking play that shows the effects of depression on a person's life.
